On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the those who have fallen in defense of our nation. As we remember let's not forget the many among us still alive who have worn the uniform. We know that even though they may throw away the uniform it is still on them every step of their life. These are the burdens of the job. A veteran whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to the United States of America for an amount up to and including their life. The Sun N' Lake Special Improvement District of approximately 3,000 people is governed by five puppet supervisors, elected by landowners only. Two out of three are landowners from all over the western hemisphere (USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, South America and Mexico) who can vote to elect a supervisor to govern and tax the residents of this district. In regards to Jim Gulledge's letter I have to say I agree with him 100 percent. I just don't understand people or the press. I know the press is suppose to be people also. But there are times I wonder. I too am very concerned about a man running for president of this country who does not honor its flag. I sent Highlands Today an e-mail I had received on that subject. I did not ask them to print the e-mail. I said I felt this should be looked into an article ran, so the people of Highlands County can make informed choices. I am very well aware of the fact all e-mails you receive aren't factual and I did contact www.snopes before I made such a request. Snopes did say "true" to the story I had been sent. For those of you who may not know, snopes is a site on Internet that will check out a story for you, and let you know if the story is true, partially true or false, so I am not running my mouth about something I know nothing about. Except Mr. Gulledge's letter, I have not seen one word on Sen. Barack Obama. ...more
