This is an open letter to the school board. I know you are trying to be fair and did the best you can with the budget but please do not cut high school and middle school athletics! They are so important to the kids, especially now. In a recession when many parents are laid off, there is usually more tension in the house. Playing sports can help save the day. As you know, the argument is that sports keep the kids off the street and out of trouble. Many pro athletes have said sports also kept them focused and helped them concentrate better in school. ...more

Dear Lyn: I take care of my older brother full-time. He's 80 and was diagnosed with progressive dementia a few years ago. Lately he can't seem to sit still, and he's constantly pacing or fidgeting. He doesn't wander outside, but I did get him a Safe Return bracelet. My problem is that his pacing is really getting to me. I took him to the doctor to see if something was physically wrong with him that would make him nervous or upset.
