LARGO -- A woman who made alcohol-awareness presentations to students was sentenced to four years in prison Friday after pleading no contest to a charge of DUI manslaughter. Jessica Rasdall, 21, of Seminole, also received two years of probation, according to Pinellas County court records. Rasdall was 18 on Feb. 25, 2006, when she lost control of her car on Interstate 275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FORT LAUDERDALE (AP) – More than 58,000 Broward County residents whose trees were cut down by the state to fight citrus canker want a new trial on damages. Homeowner attorney Robert Gilbert said in a motion filed Monday that the May 6 jury award of $11.5 million did not equal full compensation. The motion said state lawyers were allowed to present improper evidence and make arguments that unfairly influenced jurors to award less money. The cause-and-effect cliche is well known. As for exorbitant gasoline and related prices, we should reverse to effect, cause, who? Effect: Incredibly costly gasoline and thousands of other things directly and indirectly related to the cost of petroleum products, and hostage to foreign oil, which is the primary supporter of global terrorism. Cause: Legislation which forbids drilling for oil in Alaska, off shore, and many other areas of our country; establishing impossible hurdles to building oil refineries, (none in about the last 30 years,) nearly impossible hurdles to building nuclear and coal fueled power plants.
