UNIVERSITY AREA - In the past year, Kingdom Worship Center has distributed more than 100 bicycles, 1,500 turkeys, boxes of foods, bags and clothes and a car to those in need. The nondenominational Christian church, led by co-pastors the Rev. Robert Fruster and his wife, the Rev. Brenda Fruster, celebrated its first anniversary in November. SEBRING — Inmates in the Highlands County Jail will be served a special turkey dinner today. With Tuesday's jail population bulging at 453, the cooks, along with supervised inmates, are preparing a special Thanksgiving lunch, said Detention Maj. David Paeplow. Each inmate will get three ounces of meat, a half-cup of green beens, half-cup corn, half-cup of dressing, a roll, two ounces of cranberry, an eight-ounce serving of mashed potatoes, one piece of cake and sweet tea. But jail is jail. Inmates won't get a choice of white or dark meat, Paeplow said, and no seconds. "They get whatever is put on their plates," he said. ...more

AVON PARK — The Union Congregational Church got their orders prepped Wednesday. On the tables and in the kitchen: 75 large turkeys, 350 pounds of potatoes, 100 cans of cranberries, 102 pies, dozens of industrial-sized cans of sweet corn and about 85 volunteers.
