The first big test for the Bucs defense came on the Giants' second drive, on a third-and-1 play from the New York 23. To no one's surprise, the Giants opted to hand the ball to Brandon Jacobs, who was directed to run off right tackle instead of straight into a stacked middle of the Bucs line. It didn't matter. The Bucs were ready for Jacobs and dropped him for a 1-yard loss that ended their second drive after just three plays, forcing the Giants to punt. When Jeff Feagles shanked his punt, the Bucs took over at their 46 and 10 plays later, the Bucs led 7-0. ...more

Joey Galloway wasn't in the lineup Sunday; he was one of the many regulars who got the day off. As he often did during the exhibition season, Lucas found an opening in the defense. He had to slow down and come back a bit for Luke McCown's throw, but he caught the ball at the 5-yard line for a 52-yard gain. That set up the Bucs' first score, a touchdown that came three plays later on a 3-yard McCown-to-Jerramy Stevens pass. ...more

Santana Moss had a 7-yard catch on the Redskins' first play from scrimmage, but his attempt to stretch his body for an extra yard gave the Bucs their first turnover of the afternoon when cornerback Phillip Buchanon stripped the unprotected ball from Moss' hands and safety Tanard Jackson recovered and returned it to the Washington 19.
