Kasey Kahne won the season's first race at Pocono two months ago. That was his second victory in three weeks, and it was followed by a second at Michigan, but Kahne has been fairly quiet since then. Sunshine Law Violation A letter to fire commissioners suggesting how they should vote, who they should vote for and asking them to expedite the selection process seems to me to violate the very concept of the "Government in the Sunshine" laws. ...more

AVON PARK — Gary Reeder, a self-described professional bass fisherman, was shocked Jan. 9 when the Bonnet Lake RV Park's management gave him and at least two other tenants eviction notices. According to the notices Reeder and two other residents supplied to Highlands Today, they received a three-day notice to vacate for not complying with the RV park's rules. Specifically, Reeder and fellow residents Eugene Walp and Bobby Green said that they and at least three others were all given the notices because they had their fishing boats parked in their lots rather than in a storage area the park recently built. ...more

SEBRING — An oversight by school district and support personnel negotiators will require another bargaining session to work out details on incentive pay. As the school board was about to approve the support union employment contract recently it was pointed out that a small portion of the contract was not in the agreement the employees ratified Dec. 2. The language concerned job incentive pay for employees with two- or four-year college degrees. "That poses for us a potential problem," said Sam Lee, negotiator for the school district. "It is my opinion that should the board adopt page 21 ... you in all probability will have committed an unfair labor practice," because it was not included in the contract ratified by the employees. ...more
