The annual Sun Towers volunteer recognition awards ceremony and banquet was held Aug. 20 in the retirement community's banquet hall. About 50 of the community's approximately 80 volunteers from Sun Towers and the surrounding area attended and included those who help as greeters, sing in the chorus, work in the gift shop, lead bingo or work for the chapel. The 5th Judicial Circuit Court Guardian ad Litem Program will offer free training for anyone who is interested in becoming a Guardian ad Litem volunteer. The professional staff of the program recruits, trains and supervises individuals who are then court-appointed to advocate for the best interests of children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected and are now in the Foster Care System.
