Nick Barnett was devastated when he heard about the traffic deaths of two close friends this month. He left work to spend a few hours with their families. Then he went to the tattoo parlor. Barnett, an 18-year-old Bloomingdale High graduate, became part of a growing number of young people who are memorializing lost friends and family in permanent body ink. The deaths of Nicholas Marcotrigiano, 17, and Hailey M. Weatherly, 15, in an early-morning crash on State Road 60 in Plant City Aug. 4 drew hundreds of messages of condolence and comments at TBO.com. The Florida Highway Patrol said Weatherly, of Valrico, was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee east alongside a 1996 Ford Ranger driven by Marcotrigiano, of Plant City, when the vehicles collided about 12:10 a.m. just east of Mud Lake Road. Marcotrigiano's passenger, Brandon L. Simonds, 17, and Weatherly's passenger, Amelia Lee Gold, 16, both of Valrico, were seriously injured in the crash. All four attended Bloomingdale High School last year. Simonds and Gold will be juniors there this school year.
