The Fourth of July brought old-fashioned fun to the Pasco County Fairgrounds. The annual Sparklebration included apple pie and hot dog eating contests, balloon artists, clowns and more, and parachutists from Skydive City in Zephyrhills dropped in with flags. In a Nov. 14 Hernando Today front-page article regarding electric utility rates, David Lambert, manager of public relations for Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative Inc., lays questionable groundwork for justifying a suggested 4 to 7 percent rate increase. Tampa-based Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. has filed a complaint with a federal agency against CSX Transportation Inc., saying new CSX rates to ship coal from Illinois and Appalachia to a Palatka generating station could add to utility costs for more than 1.7 million consumers. Seminole serves the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative in Dade City, the Sumter Electric Cooperative in Sumterville and the Peace River Electric Cooperative in Wauchula among 10-nonprofit systems. ...more
