REDSKINS ...27 BRONCOS ...17 Washington broke the 17-point barrier for the first time this season and ended a four-game losing streak. Denver lost its third straight after starting the season 6-0 and had to play the second half with ex-Buc Chris Simms at quarterback after Kyle Orton left with an ankle injury. Ladell Betts scored on a 1-yard run with 2:44 to play. With Clinton Portis sidelined after suffering a concussion in last week's loss at Atlanta, Betts made his first start since 2006 and ran for 114 yards on 26 carries. Jason Campbell completed 17 of 26 passes for 193 yards for the Redskins. The 27-point outburst was their greatest since Week 2 of last season. ...more

FALCONS ...31 REDSKINS ...17 Michael Turner ran for a season-high 166 yards, breaking away from former Atlanta CB DeAngelo Hall on a 58-yard touchdown that finished off Washington early in the fourth quarter. Turner also scored from 30 yards as the Falcons built a 24-3 halftime lead. The Redskins looked down and out, losing RB Clinton Portis to an apparent concussion, and Hall lost his cool after LaRon Landry delivered a late hit to Atlanta QB Matt Ryan along the Falcons sideline. As flags flew, Hall jumped into the middle of things, surrounded by Atlanta players and Coach Mike Smith. Hall was yanked away before any punches were thrown. ...more

Time For Leavitt To Improve Coach Jim Leavitt was the perfect man to build the USF football program from scratch. Early on, he willed the Bulls to victory in some big games with his emotion and stubbornness. He even got an A-plus training facility built at a university with a skinflint budget for athletics. What a perfect choice to lay the foundation. He now needs to watch how some successful coaches manage winning programs. He should have the courage to hire great assistants and listen to their input. He also should save the antics and emotions for the biggest games. Those things are like a spice - great in small amounts, but they ruin a dish if overused. Now is the time to instill confidence, discipline and calmness in the players. Emotion cannot be sustained throughout a season, but confidence can. It's time for him to be humble and coachable. I love him, but he must improve. It's no more than he asks of 18-year-old players. ...more
