Tampa International Airport maintained its ranking of third best airport of its size in the latest J.D. Power and Associates survey of flier satisfaction.
The Tampa airport also was ranked third in the previous survey.
The 2010 North America Airport Satisfaction Study ranked Kansas City International Airport as the best medium-size airport in the country, with Portland International Airport as second-best.
A medium-size airport handles 10 million to 30 million passengers a year.
The passengers gave the Tampa airport the high possible ratings for its terminal and baggage claim area as well as overall satisfaction. The airport's lowest rating - a three out of five - came for check-in.
Accessibility, security and food and retail services were rated four of five.
In the 2008 survey, Tampa tied with Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Memphis International Airport for third place.
There was no survey released in 2009.
The Fort Myers/Southwest Florida International Airport came in second among small airports with Indianapolis International Airport ranked the best.
Tampa's ranking in 2008 showed a marked improvement from a year earlier when the Tampa airport came in at 13.
For large airports handling more than 30 million passengers a year, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport ranked highest, followed by a tie between Denver International and Minneapolis/St. Paul International airports.
Nationwide, overall satisfaction with airports rose slightly - 2 percent - compared to the 2008 survey.
The survey rated passengers' airport satisfaction for flights during 2009 and surveys were conducted in December 2009 and January 2010. The survey canvassed more than 12,100 people who rated their departing and arriving airports.
