In light of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, TV Japan has opened up a channel for friends and family in the United States to follow the news.
The channel is usually a paid subscription service on cable provider Bright House, but the network is allowing free access for one week. Customers who have digital service can find it on channel 991.
Japan TV is also a subscription service for Verizon FiOS customers. A company official said the channel will be free for a week for those who have not subscribed to the service. Viewers can find it on channel 1770.
