Thursday Expected To Kick Off String Of Cold Mornings

The lowest temperatures since Valentine's Day could settle over West Central Florida starting Wednesday night and last into the weekend as a parade of cold fronts ends our spell of warm weather.

The National Weather Service says Thursday morning may begin a string of mornings in the 30s for most of Hillsborough County and temperatures may come close to freezing on Thursday and Friday mornings in the eastern part of the county.

Daytime temperatures aren't forecast to climb out of the 60s through the weekend. Monday was the first time since Dec. 23 the afternoon high temperature was below 70.

In eastern Pasco County, the forecast calls for temperatures to be freezing or slightly below Wednesday night through Friday night and close to freezing Saturday night.

Hernando County residents could see three straight nights of temperatures in the 20s starting Wednesday night, followed by 32 degrees Saturday night, the weather service says.

The last time Tampa International Airport saw temperatures below 40 degrees was Feb. 14, when it was 39.

The shift from weeks of warm weather comes from a southern dip in the jet stream that is allowing frigid, Arctic air to migrate toward Florida.

The jet stream had kept most of that cold air bottled to the north.
