It's not supposed to be like this when you're shopping for your children's Halloween costumes.
Except for two, teasing days, the extended summer is hanging around like the last annoying party guest.
And the summer-like heat and sticky humidity isn't going away soon.
Forecasts for afternoon temperatures in the low 90s could fracture records for today in a number of places, including Tampa.
Coupled with the humidity, the heat index could easily top 100 and may hit 105, the National Weather Service says, though forecasts haven't reached the level for the weather service to issue heat advisories.
The forecast is for temperatures in the shade, not the direct sunlight. The weather service measures temperatures in a shaded area. Temperatures in the direct sunlight can be 10 or 15 degrees higher.
A bubble of high pressure hunkered over the state is causing the unseasonable temperatures that are running six or so degrees above normal.
It's supposed to be about 86 by this time in October.
The high pressure also means there's not much chance for widespread rain today to cool things in the afternoon.
This trend is likely to last through the rest of the weekend and start of next week, the weather service says. The afternoon highs won't slowly start returning to normal until Tuesday or Wednesday.
